The Convento da Ordem de Cristo is a powerful castle which is Portugal Tomarsituated above the small town Tomar. It was built by the Order of Christ between the 12th and 17th century and consists therefore various architectural styles. Meantime the castle is declared as world cultural heritage by UNESCO. Plan some more time for visiting the Convento.
The Convento da Ordem de Cristo is a gem of the Manueline art. The main entrance to the church is the Manueline Portal, created by Joào de Castilho in 1515. The chapel of the Templars called Charola, is the main sight and very impressive. The convent has 7 cloisters and the "Great Cloister" is particularly remarkable.
