The beautifully decorated South Portal, with Henry the Navigator in the middle, is more than 30 m high and 12 m broad.

The inside of the church also shows the riches of those days. The Cloister and its Refectory are furthermore remarkable.
The tomb of Vasco da Gama, the discoverer of India, is also located in the church.
